DEFINTION: lacking interest or excitement; dull: seeking a way out of his mundane, humdrum existence. Is of this earthly world rather than a heavenly or spiritual one.

Vanilla exists as the mundane and passed over. When taken out of context and placed in a mirage its flavour can be enhanced, added to, shrouded and masked in illusion. The same can be applied to subject matter and content. Prosaic content becomes poetic when ethereal meaning is applied to the supposed ‘mundane’.
Hail vanilla, as part of the GOMA city sculpture project is a collaboration between sculptor Pedro Brito and Performance artist Andrew Houston. In analysing the transformation of low culture into high art, they play deliberately with their opposing process techniques to hail vanilla.

Hail vanilla will run as part of the GOMA city sculpture project from the 15th of March to the 24th.
